John Bingham, 78, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Chariton, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2020 at the MHP Hospice Serenity house in Oskaloosa. He was born on Saturday, May 23, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of John and Alice (Ballard) Bingham.
John attended high school in North English. In 1958 he joined the United States Navy and served his country until 1960.
After his service to his country, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Bingham and they later divorced.
John was a traveling musician for his whole life. He had traveled to every state in the country except for Hawaii.
While living in Chariton, he attended the catholic church. He enjoyed making rosary beads and traveling the country to play music.
He is survived by his son, John Bingham; a sister, Alice Carter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice; his partner and soul mate, Letitia Willet; and 3 sisters: Velda Johnson, Dorothy Cheney and Ruth Bess.
As was John’s wish, his body will be cremated and there are no services planned at this time. The Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa is in charge of arrangements.
