James E. Cox, 89, of Leighton, Iowa passed away, Saturday, January 9, 2016, at his home at Lanphier’s Landing.

James Everett Cox, son of Benjamin Franklin and Stella Rose (Madwell) Cox, was born, August 25, 1926, in Oklahoma.

James spent his youth in Oklahoma. As a young adult he entered the Army and served in the Korean War. While stationed near Los Angeles he met his wife, Addie Lou Webster. They married and settled in Exeter, California where James worked for Sunkist for 21 years. James and Addie later divorced. He then married Verma Payne. He and Verma moved to the Oskaloosa area in 1990.

In his spare time, James enjoyed playing cards and fishing.

He is survived by his children: Tonya “Dee Dee” Cox of Leighton, Iowa, Vickie (& Robert) Mims of Grand Junction, Colorado, Frank (& Sherry) Cox of Bay City, Texas, and Jimmie (& Janet) Cox of Exeter, California; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Irene Grimes of Exeter, California; and a brother, Frankie Cox.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Verma; a son, Micheal Cox; three sisters: Carolyn, Loretta and Alice; and a brother, Leroy Cox.

As was his wish, James’ body has been cremated.
No services are planned.
