Irene Ranfeld, 90 of Grinnell and formerly of Deep River passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Mayflower Care Center in Grinnell. Irene Ranfeld, the daughter of Glenn and Edna (Jennings) Holderness, was born on January 26, 1927 in Deep River, Iowa.

Irene was the valedictorian from Deep River High School in 1944. Irene graduated from Capital City Community College in Des Moines receiving a degree in business in 1945.

On September 9, 1945, Irene was united in marriage to Virgil Ranfeld at a Lutheran Church in Des Moines.

Irene worked as a bookkeeper in Des Moines for a few months before returning to Deep River in 1946, where she was a housewife.

Irene was a wonderful seamstress. She loved traveling, playing cards, gardening and above all spending time with her family. She took pride in her yard and flower garden. Virgil and Irene enjoyed their winter months together in Florida for 40 plus years. She was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Deep River and most recently an associate member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grinnell.

Her memory will be cherished by her children: Richard (& Diana) Ranfeld of Deep River, Cynthia (& John Thomas) Wilson of Dysart and Carolyn (& Robert) Harris of Oakdale, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Edna Holderness; her husband, Virgil Ranfeld in 1994; and her brother, Norman Holderness.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Burial will be held in the Golden Rod Cemetery in Deep River.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Memorials may be made to Deep River Fire Department.
