Iowa DOT vehicle auction June 4

AMES, Iowa – May 16, 2011 – More than 200 vehicles and pieces of equipment will be sold by the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) at an auction Saturday, June 4, beginning at 9 a.m.

Photos of some of the items up for auction have been posted on the Iowa DOT’s website at www.iowadot.gov/auction. A more complete listing of items can also be found on this site, along with a form to request a paper copy of the auction handbill.

The sale will be held at the Iowa DOT’s auction lot, located at South Fourth Street and Oak Avenue in Ames. Vehicles and equipment to be sold are from the Iowa DOT, Iowa State University, cities and counties.

Cars to be sold include Ford Taurus sedans and station wagons, Ford Crown Victoria sedans, a Chevrolet Impala, and Chevrolet Cavalier sedans.

Vans that will be auctioned include Dodge Grand Caravans, Chevrolet Ventures, GMC Safaris, Chevrolet 15-passenger vans, Ford Econoline vans and other cargo vans.

Pickups to be sold include Chevrolet S10s, 1500s, 2500s, C3500s, Silverados and Colorados, Dodge BR1500s, Ford F150s and F350s, and many others. Trucks include five Internationals, one Ford and one GMC semi-tractor.

Other equipment includes changeable message signs, sprayers, tanks, floor jacks, mowers, generators, plows, tires and much more.

The auction items may be inspected at the sale site from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 3 and from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. June 4. All items are sold “as is” with no warranties or guarantees. When needed, “in transit” paper license plates will be furnished by the Iowa DOT after final settlement has been made.

Bidders must be at least 18 years of age and will be assigned a permanent bid number that must be displayed when purchasing an item. Persons who already have permanent bid numbers should bring those numbers to the auction.

Each successful bidder must furnish a $200 deposit for each vehicle that is not paid for in full on the day of the sale. Payment can be made with cash, personal or company check, traveler’s check, postal money order, cashier’s check or bank draft. The Iowa DOT reserves the right to request certified funds. Political subdivisions can use requisitions or purchase orders.

Buyers are encouraged to make final settlements on the day of the sale. Final payments must be made no later than 3 p.m. June 10.

Lynch Auction Co. of Boone will conduct the sale. Coffee, sandwiches and cold drinks will be available at the auction site.
