The Oskaloosa Indians took on the Grinnell Tigers last night to open Little Hawkeye Conference play. The Indians swept the Tigers at all levels for an impressive night for the program. The freshman squad opened up the evening with a 25-18, 25-22 win, followed by the JV winning 25-11, 25-21. The Varsity team played well on the home court in a dominating win 25-12, 25-12, 25-20.
I felt the girls attacked well from the service line to keep the Tigers out of system and make their offense predictable. We keyed in on their main player and it resulted in 8 team blocks, which was a highlight. Our emphasis on getting the middles involved in the offense was also successful because we capitalized on in-system passing to establish the middle attack and open the pins for our terminators. I was pleased with the energy and execution from the girls. We still have things to work on, including finishing a set/game and communication, but it was a step forward and a vital win.
