Eighteen members of the “Ignite” Youth Group of Osky 1st Christian Reformed Church came together on Wednesday evening to clean a section Lacey Recreation Trail. The group congregated at the Marje Addition section for the service project and cleaned from the Marje loop to the underpass by Homestead celebrating togetherness, service and giving back to the community. The service project, lead by Deb Bruxvoort of the Oskaloosa Chamber and leader of the youth group, gathered nine bags of trash after diving into the full grassy areas and creek around the trail and trail loop. “The youth had fun doing the service together, and seeing the visible results of what can be accomplished, ” stated Bruxvoort. “We can make a big difference in the community working together on projects such as these! They even received several ‘thankyous’ from those using the trail that night. Hopefully the youth and the trail users will continue to clean-as-they-go.” An MCRF volunteer was also on sight to cover the service and MCRF Director Sherry Vavra stated that the trail welcomes projects like this to help us maintain all 13 plus miles for the community. For more information about the adopt-a-mile of trail MCRF can be contacted at 641-672-2499.
