William Penn University will be honoring those who have served, or are currently serving, our country at a special Veteran’s Day performance during the football game on Saturday, November 2. The Statesmen will take on Olivet-Nazarene at the Stadium at Lacey Recreation Complex. The team will kick off at 1:00 p.m. and admission for veterans and their families will be free.

The game will be honoring veterans, active military, and reserves. Area veterans will be raising the flag, joining in the National Anthem Salute and special halftime presentation that will take place to honor military guests. Coach Lisa Conner of the WPU Dance team and Terry DeJong of the Pride of Penn Marching Band have worked with the Optimist Club, RD Keep, Sargent Ruize from the Oskaloosa National Guard Armory, Kim Dixon with the VFW/Legion, and Fred Bridges of the Legion to get the veterans and service men, women and families on hand for this special day to honor those who have served our country.

At the game, flags will line the end zones, poppies will be handed out at the gate, and reserved seating will be available for military guests.

For the special halftime show, the Oskaloosa High School band, along with other area performers and student visitors will be joining the Pride of Penn Marching band. They will be playing a medley of marches from various military branches titled “Veteran’s Salute” and “America the Beautiful”. The performance will also include participation from the WPU and Oskaloosa High School Colorguard and the William Penn University Dance Team.

Come join the William Penn University campus community in honoring veterans, active military and reserves at the special Veteran’s Game on Saturday, November 2, at 1:00 p.m.
