Hernandez’s No-Hitter Leads to POW Award

William Penn University Athletics

Oskaloosa–It took just two weeks in a Statesmen uniform for Felipe Hernandez (Jr., North Hollywood, Calif., Sociology) to collect a big honor as he was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week Monday.

Hernandez won his first weekly laurel by tossing a no-hitter against William Woods Friday.

The junior transfer struck out four against one walk and did not permit an opposing player to get past first base. He retired the first 13 Owls he faced. It is the first no-hitter for William Penn since 2014.

For the year, Hernandez is 2-0 with a 1.38 Earned Run Average. In 13 innings of work, he has struck out seven, walked three, and is allowing batters to hit just .159 against him.

The award is WPU’s first of the year.
