Grinnell trio named All-Region by ABCA/Rawlings
GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College landed three players on the 2018 All-Central Region Team released by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Rawlings.
Sam Galanek ’18 and Nathan Zaroban ’18 were second-team selections, while Andrew Shults ’19 made the third team. Both Galanek and Shults were named D3baseball.com All-Region earlier this week, and Shults was also an ABCA/Rawlings All-Region selection a year ago.
Galanek and Shults were named to the ABCA/Rawlings squad at outfield spots and Galanek as a catcher.
Galanek established the Grinnell school record for career sacrifice flies with 16 and set season marks for games played (38), at bats (151) and fielding percentage (1.000). He ranked in the Midwest Conference top 10 in batting average (.371), slugging percentage (.570), hits (56), RBIs (50), doubles (15), homers (5) and sacrifice flies (4).
Zaroban set a school record for games played (38). He ranked among the league leaders in batting average (.389), slugging percentage (.656), on-base percentage (.481), runs (42), hits (51), doubles (13), homers (6), hit by pitch (11) and sacrifice hits (5).
Shults set Grinnell records for games played with 38, stolen bases with 27 and fielding percentage at 1.000. The outfielder ranked among the MWC leaders in stolen bases, on-base percentage (.497), runs (45), hits (51), batting average (.370), walks (26), hit by pitch (11).
Grant Myers of Monmouth College was named the Central Position Player of the Year, while Jimi Keating of Spalding University was tabbed Pitcher of the Year.
