Grinnell runners Fujiwara, Lennon claim MWC Cross Country Performer of the Week honors
GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College’s Mikayla Fujiwara ’20 has been tabbed as the Midwest Conference Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week.
Fujiwara, from Kahehoe, Hawaii (Punahou School), had one of the top performances in Pioneer history while helping Grinnell to fourth place at the highly-competitive Brissman-Lundeen Invitational Friday.
Fujiwara ran the 6-kilometer race in 22:42.6, placing seventh of 324 runners. Her clocking ranks eighth in program history. Fujiwara’s honor accounted for a Grinnell cross country sweep, as John Lennon ’19 was named MWC Men’s Performer of the Week.
GRINNELL, Iowa – For the second time this season, Grinnell College’s John Lennon ’19 has been named the Midwest Conference Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week.
Lennon, from Riverside, Ill. (Saint Ignatius College Preparatory), recorded one of the best performances in program history while leading Grinnell to success at the highly-competitive Brissman-Lundeen Invitational Friday.
Lennon ran the 8-kilometer race in 25:05.6, placing fourth of 331 runners. That effort ranks sixth all-time at Grinnell, and is the best clocking for a Pioneer since 2009. His performance helped Grinnell to fifth in the 27-team field.
Lennon’s honor accounts for a Grinnell cross country sweep, as Mikayla Fujiwara ’20 was named Women’s Performer of the Week.
