Grinnell rolls past Central women’s tennis squad
PELLA—A shorthanded Central College women’s tennis squad sustained an 8-1 setback against Grinnell College Tuesday.
Grinnell, 18-4, scored straight-set victories at five of the six singles spots. However Dutch junior Emily Swartz (Eldora, South Hardin) scored a decisive win at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
“Emily played really well,” coach Steve Tyler said.
Tyler noted that the Dutch are without three of the top six players from last fall’s lineup because of off-campus study programs. But that’s created opportunities for younger players, he said.
“I’m really glad to get those freshmen some matches,” he said. “That will go a long way for next year.”
Central, 12-10 overall, completed its abbreviated spring schedule with a 2-3 mark.
