GRINNELL’S GALLO, STROMQUIST NAMED TO ALL-MWC SOUTH DIVISION TEAM

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College softball players Brianna Gallo ’11 (left) and Amanda Stromquist ’12 (right) have been named to the All-Midwest Conference South Division Team for the 2011 campaign.

Gallo is an all-conference selection for the third time in her career, while Stromquist is now a two-time all-league pick.

Gallo, an infielder from Grinnell, Iowa (Grinnell HS), led the Pioneers in hitting with a .398 batting average. Already Grinnell’s career leader in stolen bases entering the season, she boosted that total by going a perfect 21-of-21 in thefts in 2011. That broke her previous season school record of 18 steals. She had a double and four RBI during the season and a .451 on base percentage.

Stromquist, from Minneapolis, Minn. (Southwest HS), pitched and played outfield, infield and designated hitter during the season. She was second on the team in hitting with a .395 batting average while pounding out 17 doubles, a homer and 17 RBI. She had a .547 slugging percentage and is the Pioneers’ co-leader in career home runs with eight.

Lauren Bergstresser of Monmouth College and Aubrey Pendegraft of Lake Forest College were the South Division’s Players of the Year, while Megan Butler of Monmouth was the Pitcher of the Year. John Goddard of Monmouth was tabbed Coach of the Year.
