GRINNELL’S BRIGGS, WILKS NAMED TO 2011 ALL-MWC VOLLEYBALL TEAM

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College’s Olivia Wilks ’12 and Michelle Briggs ’13 have been named to the All-Midwest Conference Volleyball Team for the 2011 campaign.

Wilks, a 5-11 setter from River Forest, Ill. (Oak Park River Forest), and Briggs, a 6-3 middle hitter from Salinas, Calif. (Santa Catalina School), were both second-team selections. Their efforts helped Grinnell qualify for the MWC Tournament for the second time in the last three seasons.

Wilks is an All-MWC pick for the second time in her career. She finished second on the Pioneers’ career assists chart with 3,229. In 2011, she ranked fourth in the conference in assists per set with 8.21 and was second on her team with 218 digs.

Wilks also had 52 kills, 35 blocks and 19 service aces.

Briggs ranked among the league’s top 10 in a pair of categories, as she was second in blocks with 1.04 a set and 10th in kills with 2.47 per set. She also had 48 digs and 21 service aces.

With 285 blocks in her career with one more season to go, Briggs already ranks sixth all-time in that category at Grinnell.

The MWC Player of the Year is St. Norbert College’s Catherine Guido, while Lake Forest College’s Jen Saylor was named Coach of the Year.
