Everitt Lester
Oskaloosa. (Lloyd) Everitt Lester, 86, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, May 12, 2011, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. He was born August 2, 1924, near Rose Hill, the son of Lloyd and Florence Llora Tharp Lester. He graduated from the Barnes City High School with the class of 1943. Following school Everitt worked on his parents farm until joining the Army from 1948 – 1950 and was stationed for many months in Greenland. On August 3, 1952, he was united in marriage to Kay Everman in Oskaloosa. Following his discharge from the Army, he went to work for Mahaska Farm Service driving tank trucks. Later, he worked for the old Lytle Implement, Oskaloosa. Lastly, Everitt worked at PAMCO until his retirement. In retirement he was the resident caretaker at Nelson Pioneer Farm until moving into Oskaloosa in 2005. In his spare time he enjoyed reading.
He is survived by his wife: Kay Lester of Oskaloosa; a son: David B. (& Pam) Lester of Moses Lake, Washington; four grandchildren: William, April, Kota and John.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Loren Lester; and a sister: Edris Ann McDonald.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 16, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. in the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Michael Omundson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Sunday after 11 a.m., and the family will be present Sunday from 2- 4 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. There will be a Masonic Rites Service Sunday at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church.
