Evelyn Elizabeth Dunnick passed quietly on December 21, 2015 at the Courtyards in Granbury, Texas. Evelyn was born on October 23, 1922 to David T. Ver Steegh and Edith E. Ver Steegh of New Sharon, Iowa.
Evelyn graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa. She married Arthur John Dunnick on June 1, 1944. To this Union they had four children.
Evelyn and Arthur Dunnick married in Tucson, Arizona during World War II. After the war, they returned to Iowa and started a family. They lived in New Sharon, Iowa as farmers.
In addition to raising a family, Evelyn taught business classes at the New Sharon High School. In 1960 the family moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where Arthur worked for Collins Radio Company. Evelyn taught for the Cedar Rapids School district at the Junior and Senior high levels until she retired.
After retirement Evelyn and Arthur returned to the New Sharon area during the summers and Sun City, Arizona during the winters. They later moved to Sun City year around where they enjoyed the warm weather. After the death of Arthur, she moved to the Courtyards in Granbury, Texas near her son Rodney.
Evelyn was a member of the Embroiders Guild and created many unique pieces. she was also a member of the Granbury First United Methodist Church.
Evelyn is survived by her children: Rodney David (& Joanne) Dunnick of Granbury, Texas; Wesley Arthur (& Sarah) Dunnick of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Thomas Lyle (& Liz) Dunnick of Madison, Wisconsin; and Luanne Elizabeth (& Mike) Taylor of Davenport, Iowa; a brother, Edward Theodore Ver Steegh; a sister, Anita Younkin and four grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; and her husband Arthur.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on December 30, 2015 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home.
A lunch will be provided following the service.
Viewing will be from 9:30 – 10:30 am, before the service.
Interment will be at the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon, Iowa.
Memorial gifts can be sent to the Alzheimer Association or Central College in Pella Iowa.
