The Indians battled hard in the second half of their Friday night game, but couldn’t overcome a disastrous 1st period.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Christmas break is fast approaching, and the Oskaloosa Indians are looking to set the tone before heading into the extended break.

On Friday evening, the Indians Boys Varsity squad played host to the Eagles of Pella Christian.

Pella Christian came into Friday’s contest 4-0 on the season, fresh off the win at PCM on Monday.

Oskaloosa was riding high, fresh off their emotional win over Centerville on Tuesday.

Pella Christian came out early, crushing the Indians in the first period going up 21-9 and by half-time, the Eagles were soaring over the Indians.

In the third period, the Indians found some momentum, and held even with the Eagles, and by the 4th period, outscored the Eagles 16-12. Even with the last period effort, the early round in the competition was the deciding factor, as the Eagles ran away with the victory, 76-63.

The Indians were lead in scoring by sophomore Spencer Tucker with 15. Senior Wade Votroubek added an additional 14. Austin Scholes and Jack Moore each added 11.

On the boards, Scholes and Moore each pulled down 6, and sophomore Jared Kruse added 5 more.

Oskaloosa Head Coach Ryan Parker talked about his teams effort Friday.

Parker was whistled for a technical foul, which seemed to help motivate his team down the road. “I don’t want to get Tee’d up, I don’t want to get a technical. But if I have to, I’ll get one in the first minute to get you to play that hard,” Parker said of the speech he gave his team after the game.

“I was excited about our effort in the second half,” said Parker, who’s team had chipped into the Eagles lead.

Turnovers cost the Indians, but Parker points towards the dismal first quarter “that just dug us a hole… It cost us the game.”

Parker says practices will be focused on getting stronger and getting more physical. “Well get better. We’re young.”

The Indians have only two seniors on the squad, and started three sophomores.
