Drost’s Continue to Give Back to Oskaloosa
Oskaloosa natives, Carl & Martha Drost, former owners of Drost Equipment, continue to give back to the Oskaloosa community. In 1998, Mahaska Community Recreation Foundation (MCRF) was created with the mission to “facilitate and promote recreation in the Mahaska Community.” Carl and Martha have both stood behind the statement since inception. In the past 18 years, Carl could often have been found in a large piece of machinery moving dirt, creating parking lots, seeding fields or building roads. With a passion to better serve Oskaloosa and allow all community members to enjoy the recreation trail, Carl and Martha donated the first trail tram in 2008 making steps toward getting the trail tram tour program up and running in 2010. As the program grew, the Drost couple saw the need to grow the tram force. Three trams later, over 1,000 riders/year have been able to enjoy the tour and soak up rich Oskaloosa history, but Carl and Martha haven’t stop there. A very generous donation allowed for progress to continue at the stadium soccer field in 2014, and a new maintenance shop was built in 2015. It is safe to say the Drost Dynamic Duo is leaving a lasting legacy in our community for many future generations to enjoy. Thank you, Carl and Martha, for donating time, energy and funds to Oskaloosa!
