Cornelia A. Van Wyhe, 95, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born Friday, July 2, 1920 in Pella, the daughter of John K. and Jana DeRuiter DeHamer.
On February 20, 1945, Cornelia was united in marriage to Henry Van Wyhe at Oskaloosa. Henry died February 9, 1995.
Together they farmed for many years South of Oskaloosa. Cornelia also did wallpapering, painting and cleaning around the Oskaloosa area for several years.
Cornelia made her Confession of Faith at First Christian Reformed Church in Pella at an early age. She was a member at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa and was very active with Nelson Pioneer Farm for many years. She enjoyed rug weaving.
Her family includes a daughter, Joan Sopher of Omaha; two daughters-in-law: Avis Van Wyhe of Knoxville and Shirley Van Wyhe of Council Bluffs; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and many great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sons, Jacob and John Van Wyhe; two grandsons, Steven and James Van Wyhe; a great grandson; a son-in-law, Melvin Sopher; a brother, Peter DeHamer; four sisters: Fannie Van Wyhe, Jennie Wielard, Mary Vande Kamp and Margaret Uitermarkt.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 11 A.M. in the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Pastor Doug Vander Pol officiating.
Private family burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery near Leighton.
Open visitation will be Friday, January 15, 2016 from 2 – 6 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa.
