Charles “Chuck” Lester, 68, of Grinnell died April 15, 2011, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A memorial gathering will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011, in the church hall of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grinnell. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Charles Lester Memorial Fund.

Chuck was born April 19, 1942, in Grinnell, the son of Harry Alexander and Helen Butler Lester. He was raised in the Grinnell area and received his education in the Grinnell School District.

On December 23, 1974, he was united in marriage to Linda Jean Deppe, in Unionville, Missouri. The couple made their home in Grinnell where he was employed as a carpenter remodeling homes and working for MICA. He later was employed at Door-Craft (Jeld-Win) in Grinnell for several years.

Chuck enjoyed working on radios and televisions. He loved music and tending to his flower and vegetable gardens. He also enjoyed collecting things including stamps, coins, Coca Cola products, and music records.

Survivors include his wife, Linda of Grinnell; one daughter, Jenny Lester of Grinnell; two step-sons, Scott (Brenda) Johnson and Ted (Theresa) Johnson of Grinnell; two brothers, Robert (Mary) Lester of Tucson, Arizona and his twin Leland Pearson of Harpers Ferry, Iowa; one sister, Gladys Lester of Des Moines; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law; one sister, Mary Lou; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Deppe.
