Montezuma. Charlene Bates, 74 of Montezuma, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 20, 2011 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Visitation will be held at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home on Thursday, May 19, 2011 beginning at noon with the family present from 5 to 7 PM. Interment will be held at the Sixteen Cemetery, near Thornburg, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be made to the Activities Fund at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehab Center.

Charlene Kay Bates, daughter of Benjamin and Bessie (Lester) Bates was born on April 18, 1937 in rural Deep River, Iowa. She attended Deep River School. Charlene lived and cared for her parents until they entered the nursing home. She was a resident at Diamond Life Care Facility before entering the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 2003. Charlene enjoyed playing bingo and her lady coffee time at the care center. Charlene enjoyed eating at McDonalds, and always remembered her special trip to Ft. Worth to visit her brother Merle. Her cocker spaniel, Rusty, was always very special to her. Charlene was always ready and willing to help anyone.

Charlene is survived by her brothers and sisters; Merle (Jean) Bates of Ft. Worth, Ronald (Evelyn) Bates of Montezuma, Donald (Elaine) Bates of Keswick, John (Joetta) Bates of Montezuma, Paul Bates of What Cheer, Agnes Hourihan of LaGrange, IL. and Verla Tish of Gibson, Iowa, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great great nieces and nephews as well as her family from the Montezuma Nursing and Rehab. Center.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Eugene Bates, Ned Bates, Tom Bates and Gerald Bates and her sisters; Dorothy Bates, Marlene Bates and Margaret Tarvin.
