Chamber supports local food cupboard
Oskaloosa, Iowa – As part of the Oskaloosa Area Chamber & Development Group’s 2011 Christmas Promotion, the Commerce Committee has decided to continue their 25 year tradition of supporting the Ecumenical Food Cupboard this holiday season.
The Ecumenical Cupboard, located at 205 South D Street, is operated by Church Women United to provide emergency food distribution to families and individuals who are referred by area ministers and assistance agencies. According to Cupboard Manager Shirley Frey, “The Food Cupboard relies entirely on donations of food, money and volunteers.”
OACDG Commerce Committee Chair Cassie Riley stated, “Every little bit will help us ‘Set the Table’ for the Ecumenical Food Cupboard. Financial donations of any amount will be accepted. As donations of $25 or more are collected, names of donors may be displayed in the window at 117 High Avenue East.”
“We are hopeful the placement of our window will bring additional awareness to the cause to help feed those in need in our community,” Riley said. The window display will be up at the end of November for the benefit of those enjoying the annual Christmas Walk on Saturday, November 26 and the Main Street Lighted Christmas Parade Thursday, December 1 and Friday, December 2 at 7:00 pm in downtown Oskaloosa.
Donations may be mailed or dropped off to the Chamber Office, located at 124 North Market Street, Oskaloosa, Iowa 52577. Please make checks payable to the OACDG or the Ecumenical Cupboard. Riley explained that donors can make an anonymous donation but are asked to note that on their contribution.
“All support is greatly appreciated by the Ecumenical Food Cupboard and the Chamber membership,” Riley noted.
