Central’s Hill, Young win league honors

Central College

PELLA—Central College’s Taylor Hill (sophomore, Treynor) and Mike Young (junior, Country Club Hills, Ill., Hillcrest HS) have been named Iowa Conference performers of the week.

Hill was recognized as the women’s golf honoree and Young was cited as the league’s football defensive player of the week.

Hill coasted to a 15-stroke victory in the medalist race at the Central Fall Invitational at Bos Landen Golf Club. She carded the low score of each round, firing a personal-best 75 in the opening 18 holes and posting a 78 in the final round to finish with 153. She led the Dutch to second place in the team standings, just five shots behind champion Grinnell College.

Meanwhile, Young led the Dutch defense with 13 tackles in a 17-10 win against Augustana College (Ill.) He made seven solo stops and had two sacks for 11 yards and three tackles for loss totaling 13 yards.

The women’s golf team returns to action Saturday for the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Invitational at Normal, Ill., while the football squad has a break with an early bye week.
