Central puts four on all-region softball squad
PELLA—Four Central College softball players received NFCA Division III All-Midwest Region honors, including three first-team pick.
First baseman Katie Tenboer (senior, Morrison, Ill.), second baseman Angela Davis (junior, West Des Moines, Valley HS), and pitcher/designated player Kiley Lythberg (senior, Mount Prospect, Ill., Prospect HS) were all first-team selections and designated player Rachael Everingham (junior, Georgetown, Ill., Georgetown-Ridge Farm HS) was a third-team honoree.
They helped lead Central to a share of its 11th league championship with a 14-2 mark. The Dutch are 36-7 overall and are making their 23rd NCAA Division III tournament appearance.
Davis, a second-team all-region pick last year, is a three-time all-Iowa Conference section as well, earning first-team distinction this year. She’s hitting .386 with a team-high 16 doubles and 26 RBI, along with a .971 fielding percentage.
Tenboer was a first-team all-region pick last year and also a third-team NFCA Division III All-America selection. She’s a two-time first-team all-conference pick and the league’s position player of the year in 2010. She leads the Dutch with a .426 average, hitting 11 doubles, a team-high seven homers and a school record 45 RBI.
Lythberg was a third-team all-region pick in 2010 and is a three-time all-conference choice. She is batting .394 overall with three homers and 30 RBI. She’s also posted an 18-5 pitching record with a 2.48 earned run average, walking 38 batters and striking out 103.
Everingham, a first-team honoree in 2009 and also a second-team NFCA Division III All-America pick that year, is a two-time all-conference selection. She is a first-team choice in 2009, is hitting .352 with 14 RBI.
The Dutch are playing host to an eight-team NCAA Division III regional tournament through Monday.
