Central men’s tennis team advances

Central College

IOWA CITY—Central College moved on to the semifinals of the Iowa Conference men’s tennis tournament with a 5-2 victory over the Univ. of Dubuque Friday evening.

The fourth-seeded Dutch meet top-seeded Coe in a 9 a.m. match Saturday. In the other semifinal, second-seeded Luther meets the winner of Friday’s match between third-seeded Cornell and sixth-seeded Wartburg.

Central, 10-12 overall and 9-11 in the spring season, got a pair of victories in doubles to open the match against Dubuque. Bryn Boswell (sophomore, Pella) and Jacob Dreyer (senior, Cedar Falls) rolled at No. 2 doubles while Zane Hendricks (freshman, Fort Dodge) and Kyle Freischlag (freshman, Downers Grove, Ill., South HS) won at No. 3.

In singles, Freischlag won at No. 4 and Boswell won at No. 3 before Dreyer clinched the victory with a decision at No. 5. Conference tournament matches are only played until a winner is determined so the remaining individual matches were halted.
