PELLA— Central College football kicker Jon Alberts (junior, Huntley, Ill.) was one of 21 kickers nationwide named to the Fred Mitchell Award September Watch List Monday afternoon.

Kickers from all non-Division I FBS schools are eligible for the award based on athletic performance and community service. This year’s list includes seven kickers from Division III schools and 11 other juniors. Alberts was previously on the preseason watch-list for the same award.

Alberts has hit on 34 of 35 extra point attempts this season, including 24 straight since September 17. Alberts is just 1 for 2 on field goal attempts as Central’s offense has converted 23 of its 24 red zone chances into touchdowns.

On 41 kickoffs, Alberts has totaled 2,175 yards for an average of 52.4 yards. Five of his attempts have gone for touchbacks.

Alberts was a first team all-Iowa Conference kicker in 2017 after going 14-for-16 on field goals and 38-for-41 on extra point attempts. The junior also earned Academic all-Iowa Conference and CoSIDA Academic All-District VII first team selections.

In 2017, Alberts won the Iowa Conference Special Teams Player of the Week three times in 2017. He also won the D3football.com Kicker of the Week on October 14 after going 3-for-3 on field goals and 3-for-3 on extra points in a 30-19 win over Coe.

Street & Smith Magazine named Alberts a preseason All-American in June.

The Dutch (6-0, 4-0 conference) host Simpson College at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium for league contest on Saturday at 1 p.m.
