Central’s Paulson takes Carleton women’s golf lead

NORTHFIELD, MINN.—Central College’s Sarah Paulson (junior, Ottumwa) is back in a familiar spot—first place—after the opening round of the Carleton (Minn.) Spring Invitational women’s golf tourney Friday.

Paulson, who returned this spring after a 16-month layoff due to injury and then a semester of overseas study, fired a 79 in wet conditions at the par-72 Northfield Golf Club to top a talented 54-player field. She has a one-shot lead.

Paulson and Ali Miller (junior, Davenport, North HS) are playing in the 11-team tournament as individual entries. Miller shot 101 and is tied for 45th.

No. 4-ranked Wis.-Eau Claire tops the team standings with 337 while No. 8 Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) is second at 344.

The tournament concludes Saturday.
