Oskaloosa, Iowa – Community leaders met with 10-15 officials Monday to talk about how bus service in Mahaska County can improve.
10-15 Transit provides service to elderly, disabled and low-income residents several counties in Iowa.
The meeting included social service providers from Love INC, Crisis Intervention Services and Mahaska Health Partnership – all groups who struggle to get their clients to where they need to be, from medical services to everyday chores like grocery shopping.
The group had previously worked to ensure the services are available to those who need it, but this meeting focused on getting the word out about the service.
Jenifer Rice from CIS said most of her clients aren’t aware that bus service is available to them for $2 for a one-way trip within Mahaska County.
The group largely agreed that pre-paid tickets, paid for by the social services and distributed to those in need, would help not only inform people about the underutilized service, but also make it easier for service providers to keep track of usage.
Nothing was set in stone at the meeting, but 10-15 Executive Director Diane Gawronski said she didn’t see why pre-paid tickets wouldn’t be possible and she would work with the social services to create them.
