Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday morning, October 26, 2011 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Reverend Rodney DeRonde of the Fellowship Bible Church officiating.
Interment: Forest Cemetery
Calvin passed away Saturday evening at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at 76 years, 1 month and 4 days of age.
Calvin LeRoye Musgrove, son of William Jasper and Alberta May Van Polen Musgrove, Sr., was born September 18, 1935 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was a 1953 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1953 and served until April 1956. Following his discharge, he returned to Oskaloosa where he worked for six years at Brackney Heating and Air Conditioning as a sheet metal worker. Calvin married Elaine Kay Provin, August 24, 1957, in Oskaloosa. In 1962, they moved to Pierre, SD. There Calvin continued working in the sheet metal industry. They remained in Pierre until 1983, when they moved back to Oskaloosa and Calvin went to work at Cunningham, Inc. He retired in 1999. Calvin enjoyed wood working, home remodeling projects, and working in his yard. He enjoyed baseball, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and also enjoyed stock car races, pinochle and bowling. He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V. and in 1977, while in Pierre, he served as State Commander. He was a member of the Eagle’s Lodge. Calvin was baptized at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Pierre, where he was a charter member.
Calvin’s family includes his wife, Elaine, of 54 years; two daughters: Deb Wald of Oskaloosa and Katherine (Oscar) Ortiz of Leon; a son, Kevin (Kim) Musgrove of Otley; five granddaughters: Samantha, Michelle and Allison Musgrove, Cristina Ortiz and Ana Marie (Sean) Nelson; two grandsons: Richard (Hope) Wald and Scott (Christy) Wald; four great-grandchildren: Micayla, Brayden, Madison and James; three sisters: Anita Brady and Nadia Crook of Oskaloosa, Tonya (Ted) Bellon of Mt. Sterling, IL; three brothers: Jerry (Sharon) Musgrove Columbus City, IA; Brian (Maria) Musgrove of Columbus Junction, IA and Billy Jay Musgrove of Andover, IL; and his step-father, Robert Van Polen of Oskaloosa.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: William and Keith Wayne Musgrove, and a sister, Sue Blank.
Memorials may be made to Forest Cemetery to be used for a tree to be planted near Calvin’s grave.
