Arlene Van Klaveren, 95, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, January 11, 2016, at Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born December 5, 1920, in Eddyville, Iowa, the daughter of Orville and Eva Krizer Maloy.

Arlene graduated from Eddyville High School. Following high school, she taught country school. On June 3, 1940, she was united in marriage to John Van Klaveren at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. To this union two children were born, Sharon and Larry.

Arlene and John lived in Eddyville, Oskaloosa, Packwood and Pella areas. John worked for seed corn companies, while Arlene stayed home caring for their family. Later, Arlene worked part-time at the A&W restaurant in Pella for many years. John died January 8, 2011.

Over the years, Arlene was a member of Oskaloosa and Packwood Christian Churches where she was involved with CWF, and the First Baptist Church in Pella. She was also a member of TTT.

Arlene enjoyed gardening, baking, traveling, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed Her work at the A&W in Pella. Of late, she was a resident at Homestead of Oskaloosa and Oskaloosa Care Center. She will be remembered for her kindness and her love of family.

Her family includes her two children and their spouses: Sharon (& Dennis) Palmer of Oskaloosa and Larry (& June) Van Klaveren of Chesterfield, Missouri; four grandchildren: Angie (& Tony) Hood of Ankeny, Jason (& Courtney) Palmer of Des Moines, Allison (& Chad) Winters of Kansas City, and Paul Van Klaveren of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; four great grandchildren: Clark Hood, Maren and Brady Palmer, and Matt Winters; a brother, Donald (& Alta Mae) Maloy of Eddyville; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Marvin Maloy; and a sister, Theola Lobberecht.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 14, 2016, at 11: 00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Michael Omundson officiating.
Private family burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation with the family will be at the funeral chapel from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. on Thursday to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Oskaloosa Care Center Activity Fund, Homestead Activity Fund or Oskaloosa First Christian Church Building Fund.
