Ardes Barnhart, 101 of Deep River passed away Monday evening, December 14, 2015 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Ardes Iona Barnhart, the daughter of John Wesley and Ethel Mae (Wolford) Ross, was born on October 31, 1914 in Deep River, Iowa.
Ardes graduated from Deep River High School in 1932, where she played basketball and went to the state tournament in 1931.
On June 17, 1940, Ardes was united in marriage to Darl Barnhart in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Ardes and Darl never had any children of their own but claimed all of their nieces and nephews.
Ardes was a waitress for many years and owned A and D Cafe in Deep River for a few years. She also worked at the Montezuma Maid Rite and took care of her parents.
She was a faithful member of the Deep River Christian Church and a member of 50 Plus Club. Ardes enjoyed watching sports on T.V. and NASCAR races with Ronnie. She also enjoyed baking and cooking.
Her memory will be honored by her brother, Bert (& Mary) Ross of Deep River and several very special nieces and nephews and many friends.
Ardes was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Darl in 1993; her sister, Arleen Iola Lee; a nephew, Dale Lee; two great nephews, Stephen and Joseph Pope; and a great-great nephew, Taylor Curtis.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Thursday, December 17, 2015 at the Deep River Christian Church.
Burial will be held in the Golden Rod Cemetery in Deep River.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Deep River Christian Church.
