Registration for 4th Annual Citizens Police Academy Now Open
Ottumwa, Iowa – The Ottumwa Police Department will be holding the 4th Annual Citizens Police Academy in February and March of 2014. As part of our community policing effort, the purpose of the Academy is to provide an educational opportunity for citizens to learn first-hand about local police operations and to gain a deeper understanding of today’s law enforcement functions. It is our belief that a clearer understanding of a police officer’s duties, how the officer carries out those duties, and the end result of the officer’s actions will help develop a better relationship between the police department and the community.
The course curriculum will include Department Overview & Orientation, Administration, Patrol Division, Services Division, Investigations Division, Gangs, Ancillary Services, Animal Control, Officer Complaints, and the Drug Task Force. The Academy will meet every Monday beginning at 6:30 PM on Monday, February 10, 2014 and will end on Monday, March 31, 2014. All sessions will be held in the Training Room located on the second floor of the Law Center at 330 West Second Street.
Community members who are interested in attending the 4th Annual Citizens Police Academy should contact the Chief’s Office at 683-0629 by January 3, 2014 to signup. Registration is limited and those persons selected to attend the course will be notified during the first week in January.
The 4th Annual Citizens Police Academy is being sponsored by South Ottumwa Savings Bank.
