OSKALOOSA, IA — The Daily Youth Theatre is thrilled to announce its 2013 summer theatre camp! The Rocket Summer Theatre is an eleven-week camp, beginning on Monday, June 3 with the Radio Drama week and ending August 14 with a special three-day camp for kindergarteners. The full summer camp is held at the George Daily Auditorium on Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Campers learn about acting, teamwork, creativity, self-worth, and communication through theatre education, improvisational activities, and games – every week is different, and will bring a whole new set of ideas and activities!

“Every session I have been to was fun, amazing, awesome, and if it continues, I will try to come every chance I get,” said fourth grader Ella Boomershine.

The summer is packed with themed weeks. Campers are encouraged to come to as many sessions as they want – and multiple week discounts make it easier.

“We have a lot of discounts and price breaks for multiple weeks and multiple students,” said Youth Director Andy McGuire. “We want to make camp as affordable as we can. We also have some financial aid available.”

1st – 8th graders can attend camps like Radio Drama, Puppet Theatre, Myth/Legend, Daily Tales of Mystery, T.V. Melodrama, Promenade Play, a Dr. Seuss themed week, and a special week called Musical Theatre taught by Allison Lingren, a professional singer and director. There’s also a Technical Theatre three-day class for high school students, and a Calvin & Hobbes themed three-day camp for kindergarteners. The third week of camp, for grades 6 – 12, is called Shakespeare and features stage combat workshops with S.A.F.D. certified fight choreographer Jason Tipsword.

A comprehensive description of the weeks, with more information about dates and prices, can be found online at www.georgedaily.org/youth/summer-theatre-camp. Registrations are also available in the George Daily Auditorium office.

Jodi Krejci, parent of one of the Youth Theatre Students, said about the program: “My son loves theatre. He is able to show his creativity. Normally he is shy, but this program brings out his best.”
