Preschool Classes Quickly Filling Up
Oskaloosa, Iowa – “The years before a child reaches kindergarten are among the most critical in his or her life to influence learning. How well children will learn and develop and how well they will do in school depends on a number of things, including their health and physical well-being, social and emotional preparation, and language skills and general knowledge of the world,” States the Department of Education.
The Oskaloosa Preschool Partnership of SONshine Preschool, Kids Corner, Head Start, Oskaloosa Community Schools, and the YMCA is open for any child who is 4 years old by September 15, 2011. Classes are filling up, and currently the YMCA and Kids Corner are the only remaining places with spots available to accept any more children.
In Oskaloosa, we’re invested in education such as elementary, middle school, high school and higher levels of learning such as Indian Hills and William Penn. What the Oskaloosa Preschool Partnership is helping to improve is the program consistency with other community efforts to have quality education.
The partnership also helps to keep the quality of the program high as daycares and preschools work on a very narrow financial margin. This partner program includes programming for kids, but also does require teacher education and ongoing training.
Funding for the PreK grant program works just like “free public schools” in Iowa. All kids have the opportunity to attend at no cost, just like K- 12.
