Van Weelden trial to begin November 1st
Oskaloosa, Iowa- The trial for Mahaska County Supervisor Willie Van Weelden is set to begin later this year. According to documents obtained by Osky News, Van Weelden’s trial has been set to begin on November 1st at 9:30 AM. Van Weelden will face a trial by jury. In addition, a pretrial conference has been set for 9:30 AM on October 4th. Van Weelden faces one count of Theft in the First Degree, a Class C Felony, one count of Felonious Conduct in Office, a Class D Felony, and one count of Tampering with Records, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.
In May, Van Weelden entered a plea of not guilty on all charges. In convicted, Van Weelden faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine not to exceed $10,000 for Theft in the First Degree, up to 5 years in prison and a fine not to exceed $7,500 for Felonious Conduct in Office, and up to 2 years in prison and a fine not to exceed $5,000 for Tampering with Records.
