2019 will bring a Saturday Lighted Christmas Parade

The William Penn Band's 'Snow Globe' float got a lot of attention on Thursday evening during the annual Lighted Christmas Parade.

The William Penn Band’s ‘Snow Globe’ float. The 2019 Lighted Christmas Parade moves to Saturday night for 2019.

After much thought and community input, the Oskaloosa Area Chamber and Development Group and Oskaloosa Main Street have decided that the Lighted Christmas Parade will take place on a Saturday in 2019. The parade is scheduled for Saturday, December 7th at 7 PM. The parade will be the culmination of the three day Christmas Festival that will include concerts, family activities, shopping opportunities, and more.

“We have put a lot of time and thought into this decision,” Main Street Director, Emily Brown said. “We’ve heard for several years that the parade needed to change, and this year, we decided it was time.”

Organizers feel the Saturday parade will be more attractive to tourists, and allow for more tourism dollars to enter the community. The Christmas Festival will begin Thursday, December 5th and run through Saturday evening.

As planning continues, more details including the theme of this year’s parade will be posted to the Main Street and Chamber Facebook pages, as well as to the Chamber’s website at www.oacdg.org.
