Youth Create Valentines for Active Duty Personnel

Kids took time out of their day to create Valentines Cards for veterans on January 31st.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The north hallway at Penn Central Mall was a place of inspiration and creation as young people joined together to create Valentines cards for individuals who are on active duty in the United States Military.

American Legion Post Commander Darrin Alderson said that Penn Central Mall approached him about the project, Valentines for Veterans. “The thinking behind the whole project is to get Valentines out to our active duty service members who are serving around the world.”

There were nearly 200 cards created by kids, so the plan will be to send cards to veterans in nursing homes and then to the Iowa Veterans Home.

“The other great thing about it is, community involvement and getting different groups working together to make our community great again,” added Alderson.

Alderson thanked the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW, along with Hy-Vee and Penn Central Mall for their assistance in making the project successful.
