Lake Ozark, Mo.–The Statesmen women’s golf team got back on the winning trail as it crushed the competition at the Osage National Invitational Monday and Tuesday.
#9 William Penn was first out of nine teams with a two-day score of 641 (320-321) at the par-72 Osage National Golf Course. The program’s reserve team finished a 1-2 Statesmen sweep, taking second at 719 (356-363). Grand View was the closest non-WPU team, placing third at 723.
Osage National will be the host site of next spring’s Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships and seven of the nine league schools were in attendance to check out the venue.
Brittany Evans (Jr., Fernley, Nev., Business Management) claimed her first event title of the year (fourth of her career), guiding the 44-player field at 157 (77-80).
Elise Warne (Sr., Melbourne, Australia, Exercise Science) was right behind her teammate, ending up in the runner-up spot at 159 (82-77), while Megan Rhoads (Sr., Schertz, Texas, Psychology) won the bronze at 162 (83-79).
Alexis Guimaraes (Jr., San Ramon, Calif., Psychology), in seventh place at 167 (78-89), and Bailee Frayne (Fr., Garner, Iowa, Elementary Education), in 10th at 177 (92-85), rounded out the varsity scoring.
Tiffany Duhon (Sr., Lafayette, La, Elementary Education) was the reserve squad’s best linkster as she was eighth at 171 (83-88).
Katrina Estes (So., Paw Paw, Mich., Biology) joined her in the top 10 at 176 (84-92), while Julia Hippely (Fr., Huron, Ohio, General Accounting) just missed the mark in 11th at 178 (91-87).
Madison Lantz (So., Corona, Calif., Psychology and Human Services) tied for 20th at 194 (98-96), and Sofie Lund (Sr., Herning, Denmark, Industrial Technology) tied for 23rd at 197 (98-99) to close it out for WPU.
“This was a great way to end the fall,” Head Coach Chris Pierson said. “The course was tough on everyone, but overall as a team, we played very well. Congratulations to Brittany on her victory; she has been knocking on the door for one all fall and it is well-deserved. Elise again showed that she is our anchor with another productive tournament.”
“Our varsity reserve team also played very well, highlighted by Julia, Katrina, and Tiffany all having solid tournaments,” Pierson added. “We had a great fall season and we have a lot to build on going into the spring.”
