WPU Dominates Kansas Christian College in 40-Point Win
Oskaloosa–The William Penn men’s basketball team continued its hot start to the season, cruising past Kansas Christian College 113-73 in non-conference action to improve to 5-0 Friday.
The Statesmen (5–0) jumped out to an early 11-2 lead before the Falcons (2-3) clawed back to make it 13-11. William Penn responded with a 13-4 run to regain control, but KCC kept the margin close at 26-22. The back-and-forth trend continued until the Statesmen capitalized on Falcon turnovers, closing the half on a 25-14 run to take a 51-36 lead into the locker room.
WPU shot efficiently in the opening period—44.1% from the field, 30.8% from beyond the arc, and a perfect 100% at the line. Foday Sheriff (Sr., Upper Darby, Pa., Business Management) led the way with 11 first-half points, while Daivion Boleware (Jr., Jackson, Mich., Psychology) grabbed eight rebounds to anchor the defense.
The Statesmen slowly built on their advantage after the break, extending the lead to 23 points at the 15:03 mark. A 9-0 run midway through the half pushed the game firmly in their control. From there, WPU poured it on, using three-point shooting and defensive pressure to close out the contest with a dominant 40-point margin.
Sheriff paced the team with 18 points, while Booka Sidibe (Jr., Milwaukee, Wis., Physical Education) followed with 13 points. Both added seven rebounds apiece. Cobey Horn (Jr., Houston, Texas, Sports Management) chipped in 10 points, while Boleware and Donovan Rodriguez (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa., Sports Management) each finished with nine. Boleware also tallied nine rebounds, and Javion Belle-McCrary (Sr., Reform, Ala., Sports Management) contributed eight boards and seven assists.
As a team, the Statesmen shot 48.8% from the field and 90% from the free-throw line, while limiting Kansas Christian to 32.5% overall and just 15.6% from deep.
Fifteen different Statesmen found the scoresheet, fueling a 65-20 edge in bench points. WPU controlled nearly every category—outpacing KCC 16-8 in fast breaks, winning the rebounding battle 63-32, and turning 20 offensive boards into 26 second-chance points. Their defensive pressure forced 15 turnovers, which led to 24 points, while the offense kept the ball moving with a 23-7 assist margin.
“Thrilled to be 5-0,” said Head Coach John Henry. “This next week will be two enormous challenges for us.”
