William Penn Rolls to Fourth-Straight Win
Forest City–The Statesmen basketball team had little issue getting past Waldorf Monday, winning 88-75 in Midwest Collegiate Conference action.
William Penn (12-10, 7-3 MCC), who received its first national vote of the year in today’s poll, never trailed in picking up its fourth victory in a row. With losses by both Ashford and Mount Mercy, the Statesmen are all alone in second place, one game behind 8-2 St. Ambrose.
All of the visitors’ five starters were in double figures, scoring all but six points for the team. Blake Walker (So., Rose Garden, Campbell HS) led with a game-high 20 points and also notched seven rebounds and a contest-high seven assists. He stole three passes as well.
A 51.2%-41.2% shooting edge was followed up with a 6-1 advantage in three-pointers made and a 72.7%-52.9% advantage at the charity stripe. Both teams collected 37 rebounds, highlighted by nine from Taylor Stoutner (Jr., Keota, Keota HS).
Arman Rasul (Jr., Chicago, Ill., Illinois-Chicago) was next with 19 points, while Stoutner and Alan Douglas (Sr., Champaign, Ill., Lakeland CC) had 15 points each.
Keith Steffeck (Jr., Marion, Marion HS) contributed 13 points as well. Davis Spielbauer (Jr., Wapello, Wapello HS) scored the other six points for the navy and gold off the bench.
William Penn earned 16 points off just 12 Waldorf turnovers (15 turnovers for the Statesmen).
