William Penn Places Seventh in Season Opener

Wauwatosa, Wis.–The Statesmen men’s bowling team got its campaign off to a rousing start by finishing in the top 10 at the Midwest Collegiate Championship Saturday and Sunday.

WPU placed seventh out of 53 teams with 8,579 pins in five regular games and 16 Baker games. SCAD Savannah (Ga.) topped qualifying with 8,846 pins, while #3 seed Marian (Ind.) took the bracket play crown.

The navy and gold also qualified for bracket action as the #7 seed. They claimed the first game over #2 seed St. Ambrose, but dropped the next two rounds to be eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Austin Grammer of Webber International (Fla.) topped the individual standings with 1,180 pins for an average of 236.0.

Aidan Piet (So., Meridian, Idaho, Business Management) was WPU’s best bowler, finishing 18th with a 218.6 average. The sophomore managed three games in the 200s.

Bryce Keykal (Sr., Princeton, Minn., Applied Mathematics) was next with a 213.4 average, while Conor Fetherston (Jr., Dublin, Ireland, Software Engineering) and Noah Kidwell (So., Bettendorf, Iowa, Secondary Education) also started all five games. Fetherston posted a 195.0 average and Kidwell tallied a 193.8 clip.

Landon Piet (Fr., Meridian, Idaho, Biology) averaged 211.7 pins in three rounds, while Brock Alderson (Fr., Sigourney, Iowa, Biology) notched a 196.0 average in two games.

“What a weekend for our program!,” Head Coach Cameron Foster said. “Our squad met all of our expectations and then some. Our communication was on point, our spare shooting was solid, and we never gave up when we had to dig deep. We are happy with how we played and now look forward to building off this momentum.”

Next Up: William Penn takes a week off before traveling to Wichita, Kan. on Saturday and Sunday, October 19-20 to compete in the Mid-States Championship.
