William Penn Opens Las Vegas Trip with 13th-Place Effort at Glenn Carlson

Las Vegas, Nev.–The Statesmen men’s bowling team posted a positive result as it began its busy Nevada trip at the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational Wednesday and Thursday.

WPU placed 13th out of 55 teams in an eight-game qualifier with 7,902 pins. Wichita State (Kan.) paced qualifying with 8,808 pins.

The navy and gold earned a spot in the 16-team bracket competition, but unfortunately were knocked out in the first round by #4 seed St. Ambrose 3-1 (167-161, 191-192, 188-191, 168-209). #2 seed Webber International (Fla.) eventually claimed the bracket title.

Brandon Bonta of Wichita State headlined a field of 498 bowlers with a 240.5 average (1,924 pins), while Conor Fetherston (Jr., Dublin, Ireland, Software Engineering) led William Penn with a 23rd-place finish. The junior had a 210.4 average (1,683 pins), highlighted by seven games over 200 (high of 245).

Bryce Keykal (Sr., Princeton, Minn., Applied Mathematics), at 201.4, and Brock Alderson (Fr., Sigourney, Iowa, Biology), at 192.9, started all eight rounds as well.

Aidan Piet (So., Meridian, Idaho, Business Management) also eclipsed the 200 mark with a 200.6 average in five games, while Noah Kidwell (So., Bettendorf, Iowa, Secondary Education) produced an average of 191.6 pins in five starts.

Landon Piet (Fr., Meridian, Idaho, Biology) averaged 198.5 pins in four rounds, while Spencer Fleming (Sr., Greensboro, N.C., Business Management) (159) and Connor Rissi (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Psychology) (151) both rolled in one game.

The Statesmen reserve squad also had an excellent showing, topping the 16-team standings with 7,372 pins. After defeating Oklahoma Christian 3-1 in the semifinals, WPU unfortunately fell short of the crown with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of #2 seed Davenport (Mich.)

Joseph Woods-Weisman (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn., New Media) paced the JV team with a 201.0 average (1,608 pins).

Next Up: William Penn remains in Las Vegas Friday and Saturday, competing in the Las Vegas Collegiate Shoot-Out.
