William Penn Ends Year Fifth in League Standings
Oskaloosa–Three crowns, including two inaugural trophies on the lanes, guided William Penn to a fifth-place finish as the final 2010-2011 Midwest Collegiate Conference’s Commissioners Cup Standings were posted.
All 17 of the league’s sponsored sports have determined their champions and points have been awarded for finishes in the final regular season standings or finishes in the league’s championship event. Bonus points were also awarded to conference tournament winners.
The MCC sponsors men’s soccer, women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s indoor track & field, women’s indoor track & field, men’s bowling, women’s bowling, baseball, softball, men’s golf, women’s golf, men’s outdoor track & field, and women’s outdoor track & field.
Penn earned 680 points to place fifth out of nine teams, highlighted by titles in men’s bowling, women’s bowling, and softball. The women’s basketball team (3rd) ended its slate in the top half of the league as well.
Grand View defended its Commissioners Cup title with 1,100 points, including championships in six sports: men’s soccer, men’s indoor track and field, women’s indoor track and field, men’s golf, men’s outdoor track and field, and women’s outdoor track and field.
St. Ambrose was again second with 965 points and two titles, while Mount Mercy, with one crown, held off Ashford for third with 800 points. Ashford managed 795 points and two titles.
Viterbo (645 points, two titles), Clarke (600 points), Iowa Wesleyan (455 points, two titles), and Waldorf (260 points) rounded out the standings.
