William Penn Competes at Bearcat Open

Maryville, Mo.—The Statesmen track and field squads returned to action, participating in the talent rich Northwest Missouri State Bearcat Open this weekend.

On the men’s side, Loubert Dagrin (Fr.) shined as he took home the silver in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.42 seconds. In the 200-meter dash finals, Joel Brown (So., Columbus, Ga.) placed 35th in a time of 22.68 seconds.

In the jumps, Mofiyinfoluwa Alade (Jr., Hoffman Estates, Ill.) placed seventh in the high jump with a height of 6-6 while Justin Moeller (Fr., Keota, Iowa) placed 19th in the long jump with a distance of 21-6.75. Loys Parker (So., St. Louis, Mo.) placed 18th in the triple jump with a distance of 43-5.

Sage Ehresman (Sr., Sully, Iowa, Exercise Science) secured a top-10 placement in the shot put as he finished seventh with a distance of 51-5.

On the women’s side, Shaniah Newby (Fr., Twentynine Palms, Calif.) placed 11th in the 60-meter dash in a time of 8.00 seconds. Katherine Hunter (So., Bloomfield, Iowa) had a 19th place finish in the hurdles with a time of 10.07 seconds. Newby placed 26th in the 200-meter dash doing so in 26.39 seconds.

Shelbie Williams (Jr., Hedrick, Iowa) was the highest finisher and she did so in the shot put as she placed sixth with a distance of 40-6.25 feet. Elayna VanArsdale (Sr., Bensalem, Pa.) finished 16th in the weight throw, throwing a distance of 45-0.25 feet.

“Overall a good day at the Bearcat Open,” Head Coach Allen Friesen said. “The stiff competition e really brought out the best in the Statesmen this weekend. ”

Next Up: William Penn will compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 21-22 in Maryville, Mo.
