Some RC Cars ready to take advantage of the dirt track recently built behind the building at the Hobby Shack

Oskaloosa, Iowa – A quick stop by Keldermann’s Radio Shack and Hobby Shack is just about every kids delight, and yes, I’m a big kid as well.

I could use a bad pun about right now and say RC Helicopters are flying out the door, but Barry Kelderman states that they are one of the hottest items of the Christmas season so far. There are many varieties of RC helicopters to choose from, even those that can be used to fight opponents in one on one aerial combat, to RC cars and boats.

Tucked into a corner is a wall full of new skate boards. Look for this to be a popular stop in the coming spring when the skate park opens up in Oskaloosa.

Besides the RC helicopters, there are airplanes, model rockets, model cars, and all the supplies to paint them and build them. This over-sized kid spent more than my share of time building model cars and WWII aircraft.

For the musician in the family, you can find some guitars, guitar strings, and various other instruments.

On August 1st of this year, Barry says they opened up the ‘Hobby Shack’, hoping to keep people buying local with the recent closure of the ‘Hobby Chest’ in Ottumwa, and to give residents an alternative to driving to Des Moines.

In the Radio Shack side of things, the hot “electronic toy” of the year are tablets. E-readers are once again popular this year, as well evidenced as Barry had to step away to help yet another tablet buyer in the decision making process.
