West Earns POW Honor

Oskaloosa–Xzavion West (Sr., Guthrie, Ky., Psychology) won a pair of competitions last week, and for his efforts he was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week Monday.

The senior, who is now a two-time award recipient, guided William Penn at the Central Dutch Athletics Classic last Friday.

West won the shot put crown with a toss of 53-1.5, but was even more impressive in the weight throw with a winning distance of 61-2.25. His weight throw performance not only won the event, but also hit the automatic-qualifying standard.

He has now qualified for NAIA Nationals in both events. The senior currently leads the Heart in both disciplines, while ranking fourth in the weight throw and eighth in the shot put.

The weekly accolade is the first for WPU this year.
