WARRIORS RANKED NO. 1, GARNER NATIONAL HONORS
Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Men’s Basketball team is coming off a big week on the hardwood with a 3-0 record to boast. The Warriors have been rewarded for their efforts with a series of national recognitions.
The Warriors’ 3-0 record last week included a 108-99 victory over then-No. 1 nationally ranked Northwest Florida State College on Wednesday night and a pair of wins at the Reed Overhead Doors Classic by an average of 25.0 points per game at the Hellyer Center. With a perfect 9-0 record, the Warriors have been named the No. 1 team in the nation, announced by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men’s Basketball Committee on Monday afternoon.
The Warriors have now been ranked No. 1 in the nation 35 times dating back to the program’s first appearance atop the polls in 1996. The Warriors were last ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA in 2018 when the team earned three weeks at the top and posted a 33-1 record on the year.
Indian Hills has also been named the No. 1 team in the nation in the latest JUCO Hoop Scoop DI Men’s Basketball Poll and the No. 1 team in the NJCAA DI Men’s Basketball Media Poll.
With the dominant performance last week, the Warriors were tapped as the Week 3 JucoRecruiting Team of the Week.
Head coach Hank Plona was named this week’s HoopDirt Coach of the Week for leading the Warriors to the three victories. Plona has now been named the HoopDirt Coach of the Week five times throughout his tenure at Indian Hills.
The Warriors are back in action this weekend at the Thanksgiving Classic in Casper, WY. The Warriors will take on host Casper at 8:00 PM CT on Friday night before squaring off with Western Wyoming Community College at 4:00 PM CT on Saturday.
