Wanted Sex Offender Arrested In New Sharon
New Sharon, Iowa – Wanted for sexual assault and escape from custody, 29 year old James Michael King was apprehended Saturday night at his mothers residence in New Sharon by the Mahaska County Sheriffs Office.
According to a Complaint and Affidavit: “The defendant was seen and confirmed to be at the residence of his mother who lives at 206 E. Cherry Street in New Sharon. The defendant did have outstanding warrants for sexual assault and escape from custody. He was subsequently arrested on these outstanding warrants. He has been living at this residence for several months as he had ran from this residence on another occasion from law enforcement. He also did state that he had been living at the residence since he ran from the Ottumwa Facility in July of 2011. He is required to register with the Sheriff of Mahaska County when he changes addresses and also notify the Sheriff of the county in which he left within five days. Neither of which he complied with per his sexual offender status with the State of Iowa.”
For failure to notify the Sheriff, in addition to his outstanding warrants, King is being charged with the crime of, Failure To comply With Sex Offender Registration Requirements.
Those at the scene who wish not to be identified said Mahaska County Deputies “took him down like lightning,” and that he gave up quickly once he realized the house was surrounded.
According to his listing on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry, his residence is now the Mahaska County Jail.
A criminal charge is merely a criminal charge and not an indication of guilt. All suspects should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
