Verma Cox

Leighton. Verma P. Cox, 79, of rural Leighton, died Sunday afternoon, December 11, 2011, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born August 23, 1932 at Strawberry Point, Iowa, the daughter of Wilson and Mary Theve Sickels. She lived many years in Manchester, Iowa before moving to California. On June 6, 1969, she was united in marriage to James Everett Cox at Las Vegas, Nevada. They lived in California for many years, and Verma worked at the Earlibest Orange Association as a fruit grader for many years. Verma and Jim moved back to Iowa in 1991 and lived at Lanphiers Landing at rural Leighton.

Her family includes her husband, James E. Cox of rural Leighton; her children: Ron (& Linda) Payne of Anamosa, Iowa, Mike (& Karen) Payne of Leighton; Leeanna Ellsworth of Knoxville; Faye (& Bob) Schular of Zearing; Doug Payne; and Tania Jenkins of rural Leighton; her stepchildren: Vicki (& Robert) Mimms of Grand Junction, Colorado; Jim (& Janet) Cox of Exeter, California; Frank (& Sherry) Cox of Bay City, Texas; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Besides her parents; Verma was preceded in death by two stepsons: James E. Cox, Jr., and Michael Clinton Cox; a half brother: Gary Sickels; and a sister: Lavon May Champion.

As was her wish, Verma has been cremated and neither visitation nor services are planned. Memorials may be designated to the Oskaloosa Crisis Intervention Services. The Bates Funeral Chapel of Oskaloosa assisted the family with the arrangements.
