Top-10 Finish for Statesmen in First Action Since Break
Addison, Ill.–A pair of solid days led the William Penn women’s bowling team to a top-10 effort at the ISBPA Kegel Collegiate Classic last Saturday and Sunday.
William Penn ended up ninth out of 55 teams with 7,724 pins in five regular games and 16 Baker games. Mount Mercy walked off with the team trophy by compiling 8,163 pins.
Rachel Moore of Culver-Stockton (Mo.) led all bowlers with 1,111 pins (222.2 average), but Ashley Gorman (So., Stillwater, Minn., Exercise Science) was right on her heels as she finished second with 1,092 pins (218.4 average). The sophomore went over 200 pins on four occasions with a high game of 279.
The tournament average and single game tally are both the best for WPU this season. The tourney clip is also the third-highest in school history and the best since Caitlin Radliff set the program record with a 220.6 mark on February 4, 2023.
Lucy Mitchell (Jr., Poulsbo, Wash., Psychology and Human Services) joined Gorman by playing all five games. The junior managed a 191.0 average at the Classic.
Kelcey Aczon-Kawamura (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev., Nursing) averaged 199.0 pins in four games, while Macyn Huston (So., Durant, Iowa, Elementary Education) also appeared four times (170.3 avg.).
Brianna Thompson (Jr., Campbellsport, Wis., Psychology and Sociology) had a 183.0 clip in three outings, while Hannalee Songer (So., Ottumwa, Iowa, Business Management) finished at 159.0 over two rounds.
Danielle Fincham (Jr., Surprise, Ariz., Exercise Science) excelled in her lone game with a 210, while Alyssa Tanner (Fr., Traverse City, Mich., Sports Management) wrapped up the squad’s scoring with a 150 in her only start.
“We started off slow, but the ladies picked it up,” Head Coach Kirstin Foster said. “Communication and camaraderie were great all weekend, which played a big role in their success. I am really happy with the performance, especially coming off break. This is a great start to the second half of the season, and I am excited to see them continue with this success going into our next competition.”
Next Up: William Penn travels to Kansas City, Mo. Saturday and Sunday to compete in the Avila Open #1 and #2.
