The YMCA is actively committed to our youth, so we are collaborating with area organizations to bring you Camp S.P.O.R.T.S.
The YMCA, Mahaska County 4-H, and Kid’s Korner Childcare are coming together to bring you Camp S.P.O.R.T.S. (Sports, Practice, Opportunities, Regulation, Teamwork & Skills). The camp will run March 14th, 15th & 16th. Participants of this camp will meet with 4-H & YMCA Staff to learn about basic sports activities, like passing, catching, dribbling, serving and more! Your child will also learn how to use exercise equipment, stretching techniques and how to live a healthy life.
This camp is for any youth in Kindergarten-6th grade and will be held at the Mahaska County YMCA in Oskaloosa at 414 North 3rd Street. Kindergarten-2nd graders will meet from 9-noon each day. 3rd-6th graders will meet from 1:00-4:00 pm each day. Cost will be $10 and include snack, lots of fun, exercise, activities and games each day.
As you are pondering whether or not to enroll your child with us for these three days, consider these statistics:
1. Children who get involved in team sports have reliable support. Teammates and coaches look out for one another–a dynamic that helps a child build confidence.
2. Physical activity serves as a release for negative emotions. Children who participate in sports are typically less stressed.
3. A child will likely function in group environments his entire life. The ability to cooperate in a team setting helps children build relationships.
4. Health benefits of fitness are vast. Regular physical activity helps children keep sickness at bay.
5. Children who find passion in sports may hold on to this passion throughout life, leading to a healthier and more successful future.
Enroll your child today, to give them the opportunity to create lasting values for their future! The YMCA is located at 414 North Third Street. Members and volunteers are always welcome at the Y! For more information, call the Y at 673-8411.
